A day in the Life with Plumbtrax Infrastructure Services

With local support and servicing for their equipment through Pipe Core, Plumbtrax is well-resourced to tackle challenging renewal projects.

Leader in the industry, Plumbtrax Infrastructure Services has been providing reliable experience and services to the commercial plumbing industry since 2006.

“Relining was the preferred method of fixing these pipes and more cost-effective for the council than digging up the road,”

At the head of the business, Jeff Laurie is a third-generation plumber who has been involved in the industry for over 21 years and manages the day-to-day operations of his 25+ employees, who undertake infrastructure and drainage services for councils, local government, schools, water authorities and large-scale commercial drainage projects.

A day in the life with the Plumbtrax Pipe Rehabilitation team is diverse. They may be tackling pipeline inspections, CCTV, drain cleaning, robotic cutting or damaged pipes with patch and UV relining technology.

“Pipes compromised by heavy road loads, infiltrating tree roots, concrete blockages and steel intrusions are just some of our daily challenges,” Laurie explained.

Having recently acquired the Cosmic Engineering C120 crawler for DN 120 – DN 600 and the C500 crawler for DN 500 – DN 900, through local supplier Pipe Core, Plumbtrax has taken a bold forward-thinking approach by custom fitting out a van to get the full potential out of their investment.

Both robots are suitable for numerous applications including inspection, electric milling, tophat & short patching in both sewer and stormwater pipes.

“This investment will put us in a good position to support our clients with quick, safe, and efficient rehabilitation,” Laurie said.

“We are the first in Australia to come up with an effective and operational solution for the C500 with a custom-built slide to move the robust unit in and out of the van.”

Plumbtrax has also welcomed UV CIPP liner technology from SAERTEX-multiCom® which allows them to efficiently rehabilitate both gravity and pressure pipe systems.

After completing their manufacturer approved training through Pipe Core for both Cosmic and SAERTEX multiCom gravity and pressure systems, Plumbtrax demonstrated their capabilities on a recent project in a service lane opposite the busy Knox Shopping Centre in Melbourne.

The impressive work of the rehabilitation team who undertook concrete and steel removal from a pipe using the Cosmic System affixed with diamond head cutters from Schneider Diamantwerkzeuge, available through Pipe Core, before renewing a 76m gravity storm-water pipe on behalf of the local council.

The team used a combination of patch relining products from Trelleborg and UV patches from Cosmic Engineering as the pipe had various changes in dimension which prevented a pit-to-pit reline.

“Relining was the preferred method of fixing these pipes and more cost-effective for the council than digging up the road,” Laurie said.

Plumbtrax is well-resourced when it comes to challenging renewal projects and with local support and servicing for their equipment through Pipe Core, the company are equipped to tackle any pipeline rehabilitation issue.
